Sean Callahan
I have known Sean from some 4th of Julys on Orcas Island. Over the last few years these have revolved around the events put on by our mutual friend Will. Will worked with Sean at Filson clothing company and Will and I worked for the same fishing boat captain (though different years) based up in Bristol Bay, Alaska. Will’s got a spectacular family property in the woods up by Orcas island and is generous in inviting folks up to go camp in the woods. It's got a barn, a saw mill, a lake and kind of feels like an adult summer camp.
We go up there and swim in the lake, fish, shoot bows and arrows, the occasional guns, throw some tomahawks, build campfires, and ride around in his antique truck and watch the sunset and cook on open fires and wash it down with whisky beer and wine. It. Aint. Bad.
One Fourth of July Sean brought his harp. I just love the magic of watching someone transform when they sing and play music. I think this is a little extra when its an instrument that is not as common. A guitar is great at a camp out, but most folks who have camped have experienced that… a harp… not as common. Out in the woods hard not to feel the vibes of yea old merry men and Hobbitown.
I asked him if he wanted to tinyboatsession. We thought we might try something different and try the sound under the new 520 bridge. There is something cave like and cistern like with the new bridge and though the disruption to the wetlands took years… the end result is that the traffic is a lot higher and thus quieter.
He played some unexpected harp music, and then some that you might expect. We had a picnic because it was dinner time and rowed back to the splashes of beavers playing in the city. @duke_of_gales
