Scott Walsh

I know Scott through Greg.  Greg and I go way back.  We may have literally rowed over one million rowing strokes together.  Across the North Atlantic Ocean from New York to England and down the Mississippi River from source to sea to name a few.  Greg met Scott when he lived down in San Diego.  They rowed out of the same boathouse for a few years.

Scott’s got the same kind of gear that likes the same kind physical endurance suffering that Greg and I share.  When that whole pandemic thing happened a while back that inspired me to do tinyboatsession, Greg decided a great way to get people outside was to put on a yearly 50k run in Point Reyes, California for a bunch of his friends.  Now we had something to train for that get us outside.  Scott joined the run and on one of them the two of us held down the caboose.  Can’t say either of us are fleet footed but it sure was beautiful.

Turns out Scott plays in a few bands, The Local and Shepard Canyon.  When his peregrinations brought him up to the Pacific Northwest the three of us went out for a midday row out on Seattle’s Lake Union.

The only clouds were the contrails of the Blue Angels in town for Seafair, a local celebration of summer and water that's been going on for decades.  The lake was bustling with pleasure boats and there was a nice breeze.  I knew some spots where we would get a break from the wind that are also some of my favorite parts of the lake.  A few stretches on the east side of the lake where things are still industrial with large dry docks with interesting old ships.  Scott sang, we had some beers, the light was clear and it was not too hot.  It was a perfect summer day.
