Savanna Woods
I met Savanna Woods through Halley Greg. The funny thing is that Ive never actually met Halley Greg in person. Tinyboatsession has been a journey of reaching out to folks to see who might want to sing a song in a tinyboat. My brother’s old college buddy suggested Halley. Thus far the timing hasn't worked out yet, but Halley made some great introductions to a whole host of wonderful musicians around the Pacific Northwest. One of them was Savanna. She lives up north of Seattle along the bluffs overlooking Port Susan. She grew up here watching the canvas of water framed by Whidbey Island, the Olympic Mountains with boats and the occasional whale below. These are her waters, and sometimes her inspiration.
We met on a summer afternoon with an overcast sky and put in at Kayak Point–a body of water she knew well. There was a small boat ramp and a pier and bleached driftwood piled along the beach. The wind was just enough to lightly rock the boat. The clouds were high, not low enough to block a view of the Olympic Mountains and enough to keep the summers heat in line.
Savanna’s was on season 20 the Voice. Halley has been there too, and so has Johnny Hayes, a singer from Season 5. It's a small world out here in tinyboats. She had just got a new van, and I had just got a new one too. She was traveling a lot and could sleep in it, but she had some designs on a trip to Europe. We started talking about Italy. We’d both been there a few times and fell in love with it.
After some rowing around and warming up she started to play. We rowed a bit more, played around with the background and lighting and then she played some more. Instagram: @savannawoodsmusic
