Mohit Lauer Dubey
Rio Grande Oxbow, Albuquerque, New Mexico
I know Mohit Dubey through Justin Nunes. He made one of the farthest drive down from Santa Fe, about an hour away. I usually like to be the one to do the driving, it’s a chance to explore more waters and get those in the shots, but out here in the desert, we were limited and I was flattered that he would make the drive for a mini adventure.
I loved Mohit’s style and admired someone bold enough to wear white pants out in a canoe in muddy waters. He had a feather in his guitar. I asked him where he found it and he’d thought his girlfriend had given it to him, but she said she didn’t. It felt like a good fit with some of the Canada geese scooting about the water.
Mohit is one of those folks, and maybe there are many more than I know, where music and math intersect. He has a masters in classical guitar and environmental engineering. In between his songs told me about some of the software he’s developing to measure methane sources.
Art is a rich lens on the world, and so is science. I thought about how lucky Mohit was to have such a beautiful lens upon them both, and how lucky I was that he came down to the water to share that with me. Instagram: @mohitplaysguitar
