Marina Albero & Adriana Giordano
I know Marina through April. I met April at a fundraiser for a lost canoe in the Upper 9th ward in New Orleans after I overheard her mention “Albuquerque.” Turns out we knew several of the same people from Season 3 from Albuquerque. April is not just connected in Albuquerque but it seems all over. Her travels eventually took her through Seattle and when we went for a row I was not surprised she would introduced me to another talented musician. Marina is originally from a small town outside Barcelona on Lago de Banyoles. She told me the locals were very proud because their lake was where the 92’ Summer Olympics in Barcelona was held and that all the locals rowed as well. She was very impressed when she came to Seattle as a young woman and saw how big lake Washington was. I told her about Tinyboatsession and she decided to make it so. She brought her friend Adriana, a vocalist originally from Brazil.
Marina, Adriana and I made our Tinyboatsession on Seattle’s Union Bay. I know this well. It's where so much of Season 1 began and before that it's where I took people on rowboat tours. On the way out we saw an eagle, an osprey, and blue herons, a trifecta of magnificent birds that always feel like good luck to me.
The water was high so we could find our way into the nooks and crannies of Union Bay that are available only a few months out of the year. It always feels like a bit of an ephemeral magic trick to go floating about in a few inches of water. Marina brought a fabulous Hammered Dulcimer, which she was very curious about how she would play sitting down in a boat and Adriana brought a triangle, which was a bit easier to travel with. They played together and played separately. Baby ducks looked on and the birds sang along… even the blue heron… though a heron's singing voice is one only a mother could love. Afterwards we picnicked on chorizo, rose, olives and dried apricots and watched busy beavers get to work for the evening shift. @marina_albero_music & @AdrianaGiordanoVocalist
