Dan Adams & the ADVENTURESS crew
I know Dan because we have lived across the street from one another for 19 years. I had a feeling he was someone I’d get along with because he was the only other person in the neighborhood who also conspicuously kept a boat in the neighborhood. He’s also one of the only other people who keeps a conch shell close at hand. A few years back one or the other of us would blow the conch out into the neighborhood and then if the other one of us was home would respond in kind.
He’s been drumming since he was a kid and has lived in Seattle since 1975, enough time to see and participate in a whole epoch of music. He’s a professor at Seattle Pacific University and I can’t count the times I’ve seen him haul his drums out to a gig.
Several years ago he started volunteering on the centenarian schooner ADVENTURESS run by Sound Experience. They get kids out on this beautiful boat and teach them some sailing, some science and something about life.
Seemed like the perfect fit for a tinyboatsession. I asked Dan if she was a musical boat and he said he had a song that he would sing sometimes that brought the whole crew together. There are a lot of shanty’s out there that do that, and this one is not a shanty per se, but I sure thought it was the perfect fit. Instagram: @schooneradventuress
